Are the kids getting on your nerves?

One of the greatest life experiences, is certainly that of being a parent. As joyful as it can be, it still remains quite an undertaking. The best of parents are sometimes subjected to everyday pressures. Pressures that can wear down their defences. Yelling at your children in a moment of anger is something that can happen to all and any of us. On the other hand, if this happens more than once in a while, you should seek help. If you find you lose your temper with them often, or you start being physically and verbally abusive, certainly do seek counseling.

Why do parents lose control of the situation? Well, one answer can be found within ourselves. You have to take care of yourself if you want to care for others. This means being able to resolve problems in your life. Problems with your job, alcohol, bad relationships and abuse of drugs can all lead to difficult times. The more the problems add up, the more you risk becoming abusive. So get your act together! Again, if something is beyond your ability to resolve, call someone about it, get help.

There's nothing wrong in going out once in a while, take a break. Enlist relatives or friends while you go out for groceries, go shopping or just let off some steam. Get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday parenting. If you're in a couple, take turns and split the time with the kids, it will make things that much easier.

Life with young children goes by so quickly, make sure that the time is filled with fond memories. Parenting isn't a chore, it's a blessing.
